The dream weekend project
For the Dream Weekend project, students were required to pick three places in the world that they had never visited. Then they had to email a friend and suggest those places as possible vacation spots with explanations to why they wish to visit, facts and pictures. An Itinerary was required and to finish it off, the students had to create their very own post card, from scratch on Photoshop

Hey lea,I've been thinking lately, this year we're going to be very busy and should take a vacation soon. The three places i've really been looking at are Athens, Greece, Rome, Italy and Honolulu, Hawai'i.
I want to go to Athens because not only is it a beautiful city with beautiful boys and beautiful beaches, but I've also always been interested in the ancient civilizations that took place in that general area. Greece is home to the Parthenon, a temple built in the goddess, Athena's honor, and i've always wanted to go to it before in crumbles. I love the greek style houses, where they're all stacked in a line up the mountain regions and would very much enjoy riding donkey's like the did in sisterhood of traveling pants. It would be a great place to spend summer vacation when its dry and warm, and I would be really excited. We'd have to work really hard and probably carry around an english/Greek dictionary though because i'm pretty sure we do not speak a WORD of greek and believe it or not I've never had lamb but i'm willing to give it a try.

The next place I suggest is Rome, the capital of Italy. Rome is also a beautiful place on the beach and would make a great summer vacation spot, as it never really drops below 50 degrees even in winter. We could wonder around eating jelado while riding on little vespas and in tiny cars that clowns could barely fit in. Plus, just like Greece, Rome has a rich ancient history that I would love to learn more about. Yeah i know that you don't want to spend your summer learning more about ancient civilizations but I absolutely love it and you can like wear head phones or something i donno what ever you want. Rome is also known as "The Eternal City". It is the countries most populated city so be prepared to meet new people and brush up on your Italian.
The final place I'm suggesting is Honolulu, because honestly, we need the rest and relaxation. Honolulu is the capital and seemed like a good place to start for people who have never been to hawai'i. I really want to go snorkeling, kayaking and be in the water a lot if we go. Don't worry! I promise I will not let you drown :) Plus I kinda want to learn how to surf again so we can do it lilo and stitch style and have multiple people on the surfboard at once. Plus it's always warm there and would make it so that swimming would be fine all year round, even if it's just in the hotel pool. And we could go visit some of the Volcanos! If we dropped Panda's hat in do you think we could see it hit lava? Or is it to far down. I donno. I guess we'll go see. And then they also usually speak english in the tourist areas so learning another language wouldn't be much of a problem. Lets go soon, I wanna take time to rest (even though summer just ended)
Love you!

For the Poster aspect of this project, we had to create a poster based on an activity that could be found in our country. Athens is a city of rich ancient History and some exciting battles between their old rivalry city-state, Sparta, so I thought a battle would be appropriate. But not just any battle (we don't want anyone getting hurt). I found Larping (Live Action Role Play) an entertaining and funny way of distributing the ancient battles and based my poster around that concept.
Reflection
1. What did you already know about your location?
It's in Greece. It's the home of the Parthenon. It has a rich history when it comes to ancient civilization and culture and honestly I find that very intriguing.
2. What is something new you know about your location?
There is defiantly more than just the Parthenon. There are ancient theaters and worship grounds and many ways to see them. You can walk or go by limo tour or even boat, which not only takes you to Athens but many of the Greek Islands as well. I mostly learned about the many different activities that you can do in Athens and they're all pretty cool. I am now very determined to travel to Greece and go on a donkey ride up the mountain ranges.
3. What did you already know about Photoshop?
Practically nothing. I have taken a Multimedia class when I was younger but I didn't retain the information. I could open a new page though I wouldn't know how big it'd be or the resolution. Computers are not a strong point.
4. What is something new you know about Photoshop?
Something new is I defiantly feel accomplished. Before it was such a hassle and tedious work and I'm still not the best but I am imrpoving. I guess I learned to gain some confidence in my computer skills. And about resolution and that if you're going to print a photo it has to be at 300. And how layers can be moved and combined together to create one giant layer. And how to change the opacity and so much more.
5.What Multimedia skills did you improve upon and how can you use those skills help you in the future?
I think my best skill at the moment is exploring Photoshop and kinda testing the boundaries right now because I am currently not the best but I can come up with some really cool stuff if I experiment.
6. What did you like about the project?
My favorite part was probably the second Itinerary where I had to create the most expensive trip as I possibly could. The story I created was really cool and in the end I bought an Island where I could breed my two new donkeys and start a donkey ride business. It was fun creating my own fancy vacation with absolutely no limits but difficult to fit it all in five days.
7. How can the project be improved?
Honestly it was a good introduction to the new year. It wasn't too difficult which made getting the feel for Photoshop easier than I expected. The only part I really disliked was the changing of computers because you'd lose small aspects of your project like a cool new font you downloaded or a picture you saved to a previous lap top desktop and that's something I can live with.
